A fond farewell to Laos, and you embark on a short flight to Bangkok, the bustling and electric capital of Bangkok. For families seeking a refined escape with easy access to Bangkok’s vibrant attractions, The Peninsula Bangkok is an excellent choice. Set along the Chao Phraya River, this luxurious hotel offers peaceful river views and world-class service, just a short boat ride away from the city’s dynamic center. Your guide will steer you through the crowd to visit the most famous highlights, the Grand Palace (former home of the Thai Royal Family) and Wat Pho, home to the iconic 45m (148ft) reclining Buddha. Religion and royalty are both hugely important to the Thai people, so your guide will be able to explain the close relationship between them both.

Next stop is a short flight to Phuket, and a scenic three-hour drive north to the Khao Sok National Park, one of Thailand’s last remaining areas of primary rainforest and home to Elephant Hills, a firm Scott Dunn favorite. Elephant Hills is the most wonderful tented jungle camp that offers canoeing, trekking, river cruises and of course humane and authentic elephant experiences that are perfect for families. Please be aware that the minimum age here is 4 years old, and children under the age of 7 will not be able to spend a night at the lake camp but will need to stay at the rainforest camp for the duration of their stay.

From Elephant Hills you will be driven south to the pier where you will embark on a one hour boat journey to the sandy shores of Koh Lanta where you will spend the remainder of your trip relaxing on the beach. We recommend the Pimalai, one of our favorite family friendly hotels on this magnificent island. From its hilltop position you have wonderful views of the bay and the resort has luxurious rooms, facilities and a flawless service to match. If you are still after some activity, there is plenty to be found. Take a kayak out to explore the island from the sea, try your hand at windsurfing or explore the underwater life with some fabulous snorkeling and diving opportunities. Back on land you can take a cooking class or borrow a bike and head off around the island. Or of course, while the kids are busy exploring, just lie on the sandy beach with a good book and a drink in hand.

On west coast there is a tropical climate. The driest months to visit are December to March. November and April are also good months to visit and you may get some rain, although it is outside of the monsoon season. May to October is the monsoon with downpours occurring once or twice a day, rather than constant rain.
November to April is the best time to visit Laos and Bangkok with dry and warm weather, with March and April being the hottest months. October and May are also good months to visit with only a bit of rain. July to September are the wettest months.
