Cooking at Home
Food plays a very important part in Thai culture. This lovely cooking class in rural Chiang Mai offers an exciting opportunity to not only gain an understanding of the cuisine, but also to get hands on and try some of the dishes yourself.
Area
Northern Thailand
You will start the day with a trip to a local country market to learn more about Thai ingredients, and how to select and buy the best produce (please note this is only available for morning classes).
Once you have everything you need for the day's lesson, you will head back to the charming cooking school. In the open-air Thai-style kitchen, you will learn how to craft mouth-watering local dishes using the chef's family recipes, which have been passed down through the generations. The menu varies, but example dishes include sour and spicy prawn soup, stir fried chicken with cashew nuts, Thai spicy minced pork salad, a range of curries, steamed banana cake and coconut jelly and homemade sweet custard cake.
After the food has been prepared, you will have a chance to enjoy the fruits of your labor with a relaxed meal overlooking the peaceful rural scenery.
Please note that the cooking course includes shared transfers from Chiang Mai and it is a group lesson, although everyone gets their own work station. If you would prefer private transfers and/or a private lesson, do let us know. Please also note that the afternoon class does not include a visit to the market.
