Travel deep into the heart of the Ibera Wetlands, a drive which can take up to eight hours. As the long journey suggests, you’re entering one of Argentina’s most remote reaches. Prepare for the call of the wild. Tucked away in the northwest of the country, the Ibera Wetlands are the second largest wetlands in the world after Brazil’s Pantanal. You’ll spend three nights at Estancia Rincon del Socorro, a former cattle ranch and a driving force in the conservation project that sought to restore the pristine wilderness of these vast wetlands. This Rewilding Project is at the core of many of the lodge’s activities. Throw yourself into the sprawling wetlands on foot, bike or horseback and discover the myriad of wildlife that call these swampy marshes home, many of whom have been reintroduced in recent years. Navigate the endless network of channels or streams by boat or dugout canoe, and keep your eyes peeled for alligators, pampas deer and endearing capybaras. As night falls, this vast ecosystem comes to life with all manner of nocturnal species, so wrap up warm and head out on a night drive under dark starry skies. This wet and wild wonderland is sure to capture your heart.

Fly to Peninsula Valdes to continue your exploration of Argentina’s wildest frontiers. Windswept beaches, sheltered bays and crumbling cliffs define this eco-wonderland, home to a profusion of rare and unique fauna. Choose when to travel based around the wildlife calendar. From August to December the peninsula is home to a breeding population of endangered southern right whales, who seek shelter in the bay and swim right up to the beach. From September to April, one of the largest colonies of Magellanic penguins come to the beaches to incubate their eggs and prepare their offspring for migration.
