Langkawi
Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 beautiful islands in the northwest corner of Peninsular Malaysia on the Thai-Malaysian sea border. This is truly a tropical paradise of crystal-clear emerald waters, azure skies, lush green vegetation and wondrous limestone formations.
Pulau Langkawi is the largest island in the archipelago, and it is here that you will find the most luxurious resorts. However there is more to the island than luxury hotels; although these certainly help to ensure a comfortable stay!
Like many of Malaysia's islands, Langkawi is teeming with wildlife. The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is home to mangrove swamps and dramatic limestone cliffs, with local inhabitants including macaques, otters, monitor lizards, fish eagles and tree crabs. Caves house stalagmites and stalactites as well as large bat colonies.
It is possible to go trekking in the island's lush rainforest, and for those who are not afraid of heights, there is a cable car to the island's peak, with the famous Sky Bridge offering panoramic views, sometimes all the way to the coast of Thailand.
But should you wish to simply relax, there are sweeping coves of silvery sand, and year-round balmy seas to enjoy.
The weather is best between November and April and with some fabulous family friendly hotels, Langkawi makes a fantastic destination for a family holiday at both Christmas and Easter.
