After enjoying a hearty breakfast, you’ll be raring to go this morning as your driver whisks you to Nairobi Wilson Airport to board your 12-seater light aircraft flight to Nanyuki, the gateway to Laikipia. You’ll be picked up and driven to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, an area teeming with wildlife in the foothills of Mount Kenya and home to the last two northern white rhinos remaining on the planet. You’ll arrive at Kicheche Laikipia Camp, your home for the next three nights. Nestled in indigenous forest overlooking a waterhole, this award winning eco-tented camp has a luxurious simplicity about it.
Spend your days immersed in the wild. Hop into your open game vehicle and keep your eyes peeled, as your expert guide tracks animals such as lions and hyenas. Lean into limitless, as you cycle through the wild, passing towering giraffes and dazzling zebras in the late afternoon sun, with some Instagram worthy photos to be taken along the way. Glide into Kicheche’s waterhole on a canoe with the chance to observe animals coming to the water’s edge to drink. Feel your senses awaken as you embark on the ultimate nature walk, led by an expert walking guide who will point out the spoor of a leopard and the tracks of rhinos. Awake to the dawn chorus of bird calls and watch the sunlight beam through the canvas window of your tent, illuminating your bed. A tray of roasted coffee and hot chocolate will be waiting for you on your veranda, before you head out on your final morning game drive in Laikipia. You will then be transferred back to Nanyuki, to catch your light aircraft flight to the Masai Mara.
As you soar over the Mara, vast plains and rolling hills will unravel before your eyes. You’ll land in the wilderness with zebras and wildebeest peering over at you. Your safari starts now as you are game driven to Kicheche Mara Camp, hidden in a beautiful valley within the Mara North Conservancy. This classic tented camp exudes elegance and its location in a prime wildlife area means that you will see animals roaming through the camp, from the comfort of your private veranda, where you can contemplate the view with a gin and tonic in hand.
The following three days will be filled with memories to cherish for a lifetime. Discover a Maasai community and be enthralled by the way they live in harmony with the nature. Feel your excitement building as you approach a herd of majestic elephants, gently ambling by in the savannah. The only time to avoid Kenya is during the long rainy season in April and May. November is considered the short rainy season, however, these are less predictable and are much lighter. The best time of year to visit the Maasai Mara is during the Great Wildebeest Migration which tends to pass through the Mara between mid July to late October.
