Set in the tranquil Lamay Valley, less than an hour from Cusco, lies the Andean community of Huayllafara—a village renowned for its accomplished farmers and deep agricultural heritage. What sets Huayllafara apart is its Agricultural Interpretation Centre, a unique initiative in the valley created by the community itself to preserve and share generations of farming knowledge. Today, these villagers welcome you as their hosts.
This is a day centred on meaningful exchange with the local community. Guided by the farmers, you’ll gain insight into their agricultural calendar, time-honoured cultivation techniques, and the flavours and qualities of native plants that are now capturing the attention of leading chefs in Lima, including Virgilio Martínez.
Your visit includes a traditional lunch prepared with produce harvested directly from the community’s fields—an authentic expression of the land and its seasons. There is also time to discover the exquisite textile artistry created by the village’s women, learning about their craftsmanship and the vital role they play in daily life and cultural continuity.
Thanks to its close proximity to Cusco, Huayllafara is exceptionally accessible. For those with limited time, a shorter itinerary allows for an equally enriching experience, thoughtfully condensed into a single morning.
